  • Communicates basic knowledge of developmental theories and current research findings as they apply to children’s social–emotional, language, cognitive, and perceptual and motor development, and understand implications for practice.
  • Understand parenting as a lifelong developmental process that begins before conception or adoption. Get familiar with parenting issues associated with each major stage of child development. Ability to refer families to appropriate resources.
  • Attend to the culturally diverse attributes of children and families.
  • Use multiple strategies for building relationships with families, such as soliciting family goals for the child, sharing observations and documentation with families, and be available to meet with family members upon request.
  • Design program strategies that incorporate knowledge of children’s cultural and linguistic backgrounds and experiences into the curriculum.
